The indie collective Here Below has officially announced ULTRASOUND, a science-fiction adventure with body-horror elements coming to PC via Steam in 2026. The project promises to immerse players in a disturbing atmosphere where tough decisions and grotesque discoveries will shape the protagonist’s journey.

Set aboard a cargo freighter on a collision course with a star, the game places players in the role of Medical Officer Dana Voss. It is her responsibility to diagnose and perform surgical procedures on a grotesque alien infection rapidly spreading throughout the ship’s systems.

As the contamination advances, critical parts of the freighter are at risk of failing, threatening both the crew’s survival and the mission’s fate. To avert disaster, Dana must use a portable ultrasound device, scan bizarre malformations, and create diagnoses capable of containing the threat. New medical tools must be acquired, upgrades implemented, and strange medicines crafted to deal with constant growths and unexpected mutations.

The atmosphere of tension remains constant, reinforced by the need to make difficult choices and to balance the ship’s resources. Systems such as life support, power, and cargo control must remain functional, since the failure of any of them directly affects gameplay and forces players to adapt strategically.

The narrative also expands through multiple endings, encouraging replayability and unveiling hidden secrets that deepen the experience. Each discovery can drastically alter the story’s outcome and the protagonist’s fate.

The project is being developed by Walter Woods (Lead Developer) and Jason Scalfano (Lead Artist), two new fathers who found inspiration in their personal journeys of both loss and joy. “So many of us know the hope and horror of the ultrasound machine. The mystery. The ambiguity. The flickering image of life and death,” said Woods. “We hope our game captures these difficult feelings and resonates with players.

With a playable demo scheduled for later this year and an announcement trailer already available, Here Below offers the first glimpse of a unique experience that blends body horror, science fiction, and profound reflections on life, death, and survival.
