Helix Descent N Ascent is now available on Steam and Nintendo Switch, marking the debut of Belgian indie studio Badass Mongoose's latest project. The adventure blends exploration, puzzle solving, and environmental storytelling to take players through a mysterious world where a forgotten civilization hides secrets tied to identity, memory, and the awakening of ancient powers.

The story follows a protagonist who awakens in a dark and desolate world without a physical body and seemingly alone. During the journey, the character encounters another being that looks exactly the same but constantly appears to stand in opposition, raising questions about its true nature. As players search for answers, they explore the ruins of Helix and uncover the mysteries surrounding this symbolic setting.

Progression revolves around discovering new abilities that change the way players interact with the environment. In addition to using each power individually to overcome obstacles, the game features a system that allows different abilities to be combined, expanding the possibilities for solving the many puzzles scattered throughout the adventure while encouraging experimentation during exploration.

The experience also relies on storytelling without dialogue, conveying its narrative through visual direction and atmosphere. The two dimensional environments, presented in black and white, use illustrations and paintings to reveal fragments of a forgotten existence while exploring themes of solitude, relationships, identity, and spirituality through an interpretive approach.

The soundtrack plays a central role in shaping the game's atmosphere, having been developed around the music of Jim Guthrie. His compositions accompany the journey and reinforce the contemplative nature of the adventure, guiding players through a dreamlike universe that balances serenity, mystery, and melancholy from beginning to end.
