Hardhats: Some Survival Required is the new project announced by VoxRay Games, bringing a chaotic cooperative experience for up to four players that blends survival mechanics with creative building. The game embraces a dynamic pace, where each session becomes a true test of coordination and improvisation, placing players in the role of construction workers willing to face dangerous environments to complete ambitious tasks.
The gameplay combines resource gathering, combat, and construction in a continuous loop, where tools such as sledgehammers, nailguns, and dynamite serve dual purposes, functioning both as building equipment and weapons. The environment is fully destructible, allowing players to harvest materials from trees, mines, and ruins, encouraging a practical and creative approach to the challenges that arise.
A playable demo will be available during Steam Next Fest in June, giving players the opportunity to experience the game firsthand. In this preview, players take on the role of a hardhat-wearing worker ready to tackle risky jobs, collaborating with their crew to construct complex structures that do not always go according to plan.
Progressing through construction tasks requires attention to blueprints, but also flexibility, as unexpected situations are part of the experience. Teamwork is essential to position heavy objects, support unstable structures, and adapt solutions in real time, ensuring the final result meets, at least partially, the client’s expectations.
Among the available content, players can choose from a variety of projects, including temples, monuments, and other large scale constructions. Each objective introduces new challenges and demands different strategies, expanding the scope of the experience and encouraging experimentation.
Tools play a central role in gameplay, offering multiple ways to interact with the world. Beyond assisting in construction, they are also used in combat against local creatures, which can become both a threat and a source of food. Collected resources can be used at workbenches to craft equipment, upgrades, and other essential items for progression.
The crafting system adds depth to the experience, allowing players to transform raw materials into stronger components or prepare food to stay active. Exploration also rewards curiosity, with chests, crops, and ruins scattered throughout the environment, along with an economy system that allows players to spend collected coins in shops.
The cooperative aspect stands as one of the core pillars of the experience, encouraging constant collaboration between players. Whether carrying massive structures, sharing crafting responsibilities, or simply exploring the environment together, the game becomes richer and more unpredictable in a group setting, especially amid the chaotic situations that naturally emerge.
Additionally, the game features a robust level editor, enabling players to create their own islands and share them with the community. Starting from procedurally generated environments, it is possible to add custom building plans, boss encounters, shops, and scripted quests, significantly expanding the creative potential and longevity of the experience.
