Halve, developed by Moonleaf Studio, is an atmospheric adventure that combines platforming, puzzles, and environmental storytelling to tell the story of two spirits separated by a tragedy. After a powerful goddess is shattered, one spirit born of the wind and another born of the earth awaken on opposite sides of a ruined world, with no memories of their past or the circumstances that drove them apart. Their journey takes them across this fragmented landscape in search of answers and to discover whether what was lost can still be recovered.

The exploration begins in a devastated landscape marked by ashes, rubble, and signs of destruction, but the surroundings gradually change as the protagonists move forward. Dense forests, ancestral shrines, and colorful environments contrast with the initial desolation, creating a visual progression that reflects the return of hope. The stages alternate between contemplative moments and tense sequences in which threats and obstacles demand attention to keep the journey moving forward.

Controlling both spirits simultaneously is the central gameplay mechanic, requiring players to learn how to move them together or separately to overcome challenges. Represented by a deer and a bird, the characters must act in sync to solve puzzles, reach inaccessible areas, and cross dangerous terrain. Their connection also plays a narrative role, reflecting the restoration of a bond whose significance unfolds throughout the adventure.

The puzzles emphasize movement, positioning, and precision, with scenarios that require players to coordinate the protagonists across different parts of the environment. Abilities such as freezing, gliding, and swapping positions expand the possibilities for interaction, introducing solutions that depend on both command mastery and an understanding of each spirit's characteristics. These mechanics are designed to integrate the challenges into the exploration while maintaining a strong connection between gameplay and storytelling.

The art direction and orchestral soundtrack reinforce the experience's atmosphere, accompanying the transition from oppressive landscapes to grand environments without eliminating the sense of danger. The music also follows the narrative's progression, helping convey emotions that the characters never express verbally. Featuring handcrafted stages, the game uses environments, sounds, and movement to tell its story without relying on dialogue.

Tom Schipper, composer at Moonleaf Studio, describes the importance of the musical composition and the project's central mechanic: "Over the last couple of years, I've dedicated my heart and soul to writing the music for 'Halve'. At the heart of Halve lives the act of guiding two spirits at once: control them simultaneously in an atmospheric journey about separation, memory, and the hope of becoming whole again."

The experience brings together logic challenges, exploration, and an emotional narrative centered on separation and the possibility of reconciliation. By making cooperation between two simultaneously controlled characters the core of the experience, the game turns puzzle-solving into an extension of the relationship between the protagonists. The journey aims to create a connection between mechanics, music, and atmosphere that stays with players long after their adventure comes to an end.
