Ground Zero Hero is now available for PC players through a free demo on Steam, offering a first look at the horde survival action roguelike. Developed by Acclaim, Inc. in partnership with Australian solo developer Rowan Edmondson, the game features a vibrant hand drawn art style inspired by animations like The Simpsons and Rick and Morty, placing players in a post apocalyptic world filled with mutants.

The experience blends chaos and progression in a devastated setting, where the goal is to face massive waves of enemies while evolving through bizarre mutations. Throughout the gameplay, players can smash piñatas, consume candy, and absorb the irradiated remains of defeated creatures to unlock new abilities, gradually transforming into an increasingly powerful and unstable mutant.

The demo introduces the first area of the game, known as Doomsday Desert, and provides a glimpse of what is to come. Players can experiment with 14 of the 19 total mutations planned for the full release, starting with five and unlocking nine more as they progress. Each mutation also features a special form described as bonkers, further amplifying the chaotic potential of these abilities.

Another highlight is progression carryover, as everything unlocked during the demo will transfer to the full version of the game. This approach encourages players to explore its systems in depth, testing combinations and strategies ahead of launch.

To celebrate the demo release, Acclaim, Inc. has also shared a new trailer showcasing the fast paced action, over the top mutations, and the game’s irreverent tone. The footage reinforces its identity as a playful and absurd experience that fully embraces its own madness.

Beyond its mutation system, the game promises a range of features designed to reward experimentation. Players will be able to unlock permanent upgrades, discover powerful combinations, and explore multiple wastelands, each with its own interactive elements that shape combat encounters.

The experience also includes a dynamic soundtrack that reacts to gameplay, enhancing the intensity of each run. Among its most eccentric elements are mechanics like destroying piñatas for rewards and even giving birth to a man in a chicken suit, reinforcing the surreal humor that defines the game.

The full release is scheduled for this summer, with confirmed versions for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X and S, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, and PC via Steam, bringing its chaotic action to a wide range of platforms.
