Indonesian indie studio Glory Jam has officially announced that Grim Trials is coming to Nintendo Switch 2, expanding the reach of its heavy metal inspired action roguelite. Published by Soft Source Publishing, the game can already be experienced through a demo available on the Nintendo eShop, giving players the opportunity to explore part of the experience ahead of the full release.
The adventure follows Avelin, a young woman who met an untimely end and became one of Death's many Reapers. Tasked with hunting down impure souls, she must confront her own inner demons while navigating an underworld shaped by her personal struggles. As she endures these trials of love, loss, and redemption, Avelin seeks to earn her place as a full fledged Reaper and reunite with the person she loves, who is still alive.
Weapon customization plays a central role throughout the experience, allowing players to build and adapt their own arsenal during each run. Rather than relying on predefined equipment, the game encourages experimenting with different components to forge unique weapons that can be tested and refined in combat according to each player's preferred fighting style.
The game's audiovisual identity further reinforces its heavy metal inspiration. Alongside its fast paced battles, the original soundtrack was composed by the Indonesian metal band Sigmun, delivering powerful tracks that synchronize with the rhythm of combat and accompany every strike made with the player's custom built weapons.
The campaign blends roguelite mechanics with a narrative focused on Avelin's personal journey, exploring the psychological landscape of a soul in turmoil as she faces increasingly demanding challenges. Progress is driven both by mastering the combat system and by discovering new ways to craft equipment that expands the player's strategic possibilities.
The Nintendo Switch 2 version has also been designed to take advantage of the console's capabilities, offering crisp visuals, refined haptic feedback, and the flexibility to play both at home and on the go while preserving the intense action and heavy metal atmosphere that define the experience.
