gamescom 2026 is approaching its event week, and the event has already reached new records in attendance and occupancy. This year's edition brings together more than 1,600 exhibitors, 70% of whom are international, as well as 47 country pavilions representing 40 countries. For the first time, all 233,000 square meters of gross exhibition space are fully occupied, while the event's international presence is further strengthened by the debut of country pavilions from Bulgaria, Cyprus, Hungary, Morocco and Nigeria. Public demand also remains high, with tickets and wildcards for Saturday already sold out.

Felix Falk, Managing Director of game, the German Games Industry Association, highlighted the scale reached by the event in 2026. "With gamescom 2026 just days away, the outlook couldn't be better. Even more exhibitors from 67 countries, a new record number of country pavilions, a sold-out show floor and the biggest indie area to date – this year's games highlight promises to be an unforgettable week that captures the incredible diversity of games culture. What's more, the event will also feature political firsts, including a visit from Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier. We in the games industry, together with the community, are looking forward to a truly exceptional games festival – on-site in Germany and via livestream to fans around the world."

Gerald Böse, President and Chief Executive Officer of Koelnmesse GmbH, emphasized the event's economic impact across different sectors of the industry. "In 2026, gamescom is proving its economic significance once again – not just for Germany as a games location, but also for Europe and the entire global industry. The strong demand reflects the vital role that gamescom plays for companies, institutions and the worldwide community. We're looking forward to a week packed with networking, business talks, premieres, a varied program and the community energy that makes gamescom unique all over the world."

The area dedicated to independent games has also reached its largest size to date, featuring more than 420 companies and hundreds of titles, representing a 16% increase compared with the previous year. The space strengthens the presence of smaller teams and creative projects within the event, establishing the fair as a meeting point for new perspectives and productions developed outside large scale production environments. The expansion follows this year's "Small teams, big successes" trend, highlighting the contribution of independent studios to global gaming culture.

The digital program expands the reach of the week with broadcasts of attractions such as gamescom Opening Night Live, gamescom awesome indies, the charity speedrunning event gamescom GDQ and gamescom studio, produced directly from the show floor. gamescom epix also returns in 2026 with a new adventure set in outer space, where participants can complete quests, unlock collectible cards and earn rewards. For the first time, 19 of the 67 card designs will also be available in physical form for visitors.

The gamescom city festival will also extend the program beyond the exhibition halls, with activities scheduled for August 29 and 30 in central Cologne. Among the announced musical acts are Thees Uhlmann & Band and The Notwist, further strengthening the connection between games, music, culture and the community throughout the event week.

The professional program begins on August 24 and 25 with gamescom dev, the official conference dedicated to game development. The program will feature more than 380 speakers across 230 sessions and 18 stages, including presentations by Amir Satvat, Business Development Director at Tencent Games, and Anthony Gallegos, Creative Director of Subnautica 2. For the first time, the conference will feature dedicated tracks covering animation, level design, artificial intelligence in gameplay and artificial intelligence in production.

gamescom congress will take place on August 27 and bring together representatives from the business, political, scientific, educational, media and game development sectors. For the first time, Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will open the congress, whose program will address topics such as "Playing field democracy" and "The Games Effect", exploring the role of games in social coexistence and their positive impact on different areas of life and the economy.

Also taking place on August 27, the gamescom invest circle will connect a selection of games and technology startups with international investors, publishers and strategic partners. Created in 2023 in partnership with PIRATEx, the event has established itself as a platform for early stage investment and matchmaking within Europe's games and GameTech sectors, further reinforcing gamescom's position as a hub for business, innovation and connections across the global industry.
