Fullbright, creator of Gone Home and Tacoma, has introduced "Springs, Eternal" as its new project, a first person narrative exploration game with a lo fi minimalist aesthetic set within a mysterious hot spring in the middle of the night. The game is currently in development for PC and is scheduled for release in 2026 via Steam.
The experience invites players to walk through Stillwater Springs, an enigmatic retreat surrounded by fog covered pines, where the night atmosphere turns every step into a blend of warmth and unease. The studio describes the setting as a mysterious place that stirs curiosity and proposes an intimate journey through winding trails lit only by the player’s own flashlight. As players move through these dark paths, they begin to reconstruct deeply human memories related to the romantic relationship that brought them there. Each recollection emerges as an essential piece in forming an emotional story that reveals both the past and the possible future of those involved in that bond.
Along the journey, various characters appear, each also seeking refuge in Stillwater for their own reasons. Among them are philosophers engaged in endless debates, a tattooist ready to inscribe the traveler’s future, quiet elderly men, a contemplative widow, and young lovers. Each encounter adds layers to the experience and broadens the understanding of what this place represents.
For the first time in Fullbright’s history, interaction with these inhabitants unfolds through branching dialogue. This structure allows players to discover who these figures are, how their experiences connect to the protagonist’s path, and what secrets might still be hidden in this subtly supernatural environment.
The atmosphere reinforces the dreamlike quality of the game through a lo fi aesthetic reminiscent of late 1990s PCs and home consoles. Pixelated visuals and dithered fog combine to create a moonlit ambience that heightens the mystery of the setting, guiding players along shadowy trails where danger always seems possible, even if the narrative itself questions that certainty.
The information presented points to a short, focused experience estimated at two to three hours, emphasizing sensory and emotional exploration. Caverns, hidden pools, and unusual attractions emerge as the map expands, revealing discoveries that reward attention to detail and encourage revisiting previously explored areas.
By revisiting conversations and using information obtained from different interactions, players uncover new narrative layers and previously hidden paths. Memories retrieved through flashbacks compose a portrait of a relationship lived in depth, while the act of exploration connects characters, spaces, and emotions into a story that reflects everything Springs Eternal aims to offer.
