Independent developer Nionetix has announced the early access release of Frozen Ship after three years of development, marking the arrival of its survival game that combines first person exploration, construction, resource management, and economic strategy. The team also celebrated surpassing 100,000 wishlists before launch. "After 3 years of development, our small team is finally launching the game. Thank you for helping us reach 100,000+ wishlists before release", said the Nionetix team.

Set in a snow covered world devastated by an unknown collapse, the game puts players in command of an expedition tasked with finding a suitable location to establish a new settlement. The mission includes a crew of 20 people and a ship capable of traveling vast distances while carrying the resources required for a long journey.

The experience combines survival and management systems with a narrative adventure set across a procedurally generated open world. Each playthrough uses different fragments to create the environment, allowing events, resources, and situations encountered during exploration to vary, while the main storyline retains the same narrative structure.

Managing the ship serves as one of the main pillars of the experience, placing players in the role of a captain responsible for decisions that directly affect the crew. Building structures, crafting items, researching technologies, and overseeing activities aboard the vessel are all part of the routine, while decisions made throughout the journey influence the crew's confidence in the mission.

The crew also features different roles that must be assigned according to the needs of each situation. Members can be sent out to explore the world or remain aboard the ship to handle construction, cooking, crafting, and other essential tasks required to keep the expedition running.

Events encountered during the journey are influenced by the selected difficulty level and can either increase the challenges or provide unexpected opportunities. New workers and hidden caches of supplies can help recover an expedition in trouble, while other events may cause significant losses and force players to change their plans.

Exploration requires constant planning, as the frozen environment presents risks that go beyond resource scarcity. During expeditions, players must gather materials, craft items, and complete tasks before returning to the ship at the end of the day, avoiding being stranded alone in the wilderness after nightfall.

The procedural world is also designed to provide greater variety across multiple playthroughs, with situations capable of changing how each expedition unfolds. Players who complete the narrative campaign and want to continue their journey can also access a survival mode designed for extended play.
