The latest update to the FLING UP TOGETHER demo, available on Steam, expands its cooperative gameplay with the addition of proximity voice chat. Developed by OFF BOX Studios, the 3D platformer takes two players on a vertical journey through a world inspired by Arabian architecture, featuring floating islands, suspended ruins and monumental bridges. Tied together by a single rope, players must work as a team to reach higher areas, cross gaps and avoid falls that jeopardize the progress of the entire team.
The core mechanic relies on physics and rope tension as tools for climbing, allowing players to pull and fling each other between platforms while attempting to rescue their partner during a fall. Since both players share the same fate, a poorly timed move can bring their ascent to an end and force them to recover lost ground. The game also features color coded platforms that only support the corresponding character, requiring constant coordination for both players to advance.
Proximity voice chat is the update's main addition, allowing players to communicate directly during matches without relying on external tools. The feature encourages communication in situations that demand quick decisions, from coordinating movements to handling tense moments caused by risky maneuvers. Since the rope remains under the players' control, every rescue attempt or execution error can lead to either an unexpected solution or a loss of progress.
The update also introduces customization options through skins and emotes, allowing players to change their characters' appearances and express themselves during the climb. These gestures can be used to celebrate a successful maneuver, apologize for a poorly timed pull or tease a partner after a fall. These features reinforce the game's comedic elements, which use unpredictable movements, quirky characters and moving obstacles to turn mistakes into shared moments.
Treasure chests hidden away from the main route expand exploration opportunities, encouraging players to take risks by venturing off the beaten path. The game also features collectible bugs scattered throughout the environment, rewarding those who explore different sections of the climb. These optional objectives add variety to the ascent and create a dilemma between moving forward safely and pursuing rewards in areas that demand greater precision.
The experience retains mandatory cooperation as its fundamental principle, with no individual progression or separate checkpoints for each player. Color coded platforms require players to account for each character's limitations, while the rope serves as an active tool that can either facilitate traversal or cause an accident. With the new communication and expression options, the update aims to make these interactions more dynamic, emphasizing both teamwork and the unexpected consequences of every move.
