German developer Pixel Maniacs has announced Fables of Dwale, its new adventure and exploration project, unveiling the title through a reveal trailer alongside its official Steam page. The game transports players to a world that continues to exist after fairy tales have ended, where folkloric creatures, legendary characters, and ancient mysteries coexist under the shadow of a strange illness threatening the enchanted lands.

The story follows Little Red Riding Hood as she travels across diverse regions in search of a cure for the disease known as Dwale. Throughout the journey, players will gather fruits, fungi, and other natural resources while bartering with inhabitants inspired by myths and folklore. As the adventure unfolds, new secrets surrounding the plague's origins emerge, raising doubts about the motives of those who claim to have answers.

The world spans a variety of locations, from the ailing town of Dawnhollow in the Enchanted Forest to the toxic swamps of Murkmire and the frozen peaks of the Nanuk Mountains. Each area features its own stories, dangers, quests, and memorable figures drawn from folklore, encouraging continuous exploration and discovery.

Resource management plays an important role in the experience, particularly through the basket carried by the protagonist. Items must be arranged carefully, with heavier and sturdier objects placed at the bottom and fragile goods on top, as poor organization can lead to damaged supplies during the journey.

Nightfall dramatically changes the nature of exploration, making the protagonist's lantern an essential tool for survival. As darkness spreads across the land, nocturnal creatures become a constant threat, attempting to steal the very source of protection that keeps the encroaching illness at bay.

The narrative also introduces the mysterious Lantern King, ruler of the Enchanted Forest, who claims to be producing a cure for the plague spreading throughout the realm. His promise raises questions about how much he truly knows about the disease's origins and whether trusting him is the right choice. Amid suspicion and uncertainty, players will have to decide how much faith they can place in what may be their only hope for salvation.
