Scottish studio 8BitSkull is set to haunt players with the reveal of their upcoming auto-battler dungeon crawler, Skull Horde. In this title, players take the form of a floating skull empowered by the dark forces of necromancy, summoning a horde of skeletons to battle the living. "Death" is described as "a temporary inconvenience," allowing the dead to rise once again, bringing a macabre yet fun twist to gameplay. The creators of BORE BLASTERS promise an immersive experience where players raise armies of undead to combat the still-living hordes.
Players can grow an ever-expanding skeletal army, battling through procedurally generated dungeons, where each new venture offers opportunities to collect loot and unlock powerful perks. Crypt commanders will be able to purchase different types of units to build their squad, each with unique abilities. This diversity allows players to mix specialties and construct the ultimate horde, with the added option of merging similar units to create stronger versions, unlocking spectral abilities along the way.
The battle system in Skull Horde plays out in real-time, letting minions fight independently while players choose where to explore and when to strike. The studio highlights that "fans of Diablo II's Necromancer class’ tricks are in for quite the treat" with gameplay that combines familiarity with a streamlined, accessible format. This dynamic not only provides a smooth gameplay experience but also challenges players to develop creative strategies to overcome each level.
Players will be able to test various playable characters, each with unique special abilities that cater to different play styles. The goal is for each crypt commander to find the character that best fits their approach to "dealing with death." Additionally, the ability to diversify the army by merging unit types enables players to unlock stronger versions and unique abilities, enriching the combat experience.
Skull Horde will be released for PC via Steam, with support for Steam Deck and Linux, and will be available in multiple languages, including Brazilian Portuguese and Korean. With its innovative approach and engaging gameplay elements, the title promises to captivate fans of necromancy games as well as those seeking a fresh experience within the genre.
