In Death Howl, the latest project by the Danish team The Outer Zone in collaboration with 11 bit studios, players are immersed in an emotional narrative blending strategy, exploration, and deck-building mechanics within a dark and atmospheric world. The game's demo, now available on Steam, launches alongside the 11 bit studios Publisher Sale, offering fans a chance to experience this unique title inspired by Nordic Stone Age mythology.

As Ro, a grieving mother searching for her lost child, players will traverse ethereal realms and face intense turn-based battles. Deck-building mechanics are central to the gameplay, challenging players to adapt strategies and refine their decks to overcome relentless spirits, formidable enemies, and powerful bosses. Shamanic totems and unique cards unlocked in each region are essential tools for confronting the challenges of this spiritual world.

The game stands out by integrating deck-building mechanics into an open-world setting, divided into biomes such as the shadowy Forest of Howling Meadows and the enigmatic Fields of Illusion. As players explore these regions, they unlock new cards, uncover fragments of Ro's story, and unravel the mysteries of a world shaped by pain and loss. This innovative approach promises a distinctive experience within the genre.

According to Malte Burup, Director and Writer of Death Howl, "The loss of a loved one is universal, an inevitable part of the human experience. We believe our narrative approach will resonate with players from all walks of life. We introduced a fresh perspective to the deck-building genre, combining it with soulslike exploration and adding a captivating story to leave a lasting impact on those who follow Ro on her journey." Burup, along with colleagues Rasmus Nilsson and Lasse Sommer, forms the creative core of The Outer Zone, a Copenhagen-based studio.

With a planned release for late 2025, Death Howl is supported by the Danish Film Institute – The Games Scheme and promises a unique blend of strategy and emotion in a world where grief and hope converge.
