Virtual Void Studio has confirmed Dash Dash Dead's participation in Steam Next Fest, bringing players an experience that blends roguelite progression, dungeon crawling, and strategic turn based combat. Set within a brutal television show known as Bloodsport, the game casts participants as inmates who must hunt targets, gather resources, and win over the audience in order to survive until the end of the spectacle.
Inspired by titles such as Risk of Rain 2 and Crypt of the Necrodancer, the game focuses on fast paced runs where every decision can determine success or failure. Competitors face increasingly unpredictable situations, including unusual enemies such as rats armed with grenades or giant hammers, requiring constant adaptation to overcome challenges and reach the boss waiting at the end of each floor.
The demo featured during the event includes two episodes structured as live television broadcasts, each offering its own boss encounter and progressively tougher challenges. Progression revolves around improvisation, encouraging players to scour the environment for items and opportunities to boost their popularity with the audience.
More than 80 items are available to create a wide range of builds and powerful synergies capable of completely changing the course of a run. Effects such as burning enemies, chaining explosions, and other interactions allow players to develop increasingly outrageous strategies, while audience reactions play a key role in shaping the atmosphere of the show and rewarding the most spectacular displays of carnage.
Replayability is further strengthened by more than 50 handcrafted rooms assembled procedurally, ensuring that every run feels different. The turn based combat system adds an extra layer of tension, as hesitation comes at a cost. The longer contestants take to act, the more difficult the show becomes, while the prison warden watches closely and comments on every move made in front of the cameras.
