With an updated demo showcased during gamescom 2026, Crystalmancers combines roguelike elements with puzzle gameplay and a concept inspired by 1990s JRPGs. Developed by Vania Games, the title puts players in the role of a Crystalmancer, a prestigious sorcerer capable of using mana crystals to cast powerful spells while exploring The Primordial Cauldron, an ancient dungeon considered the most dangerous ever discovered.
Progression is structured around different attempts to explore the dungeon, with each character offering unique abilities and ultimate attacks that significantly alter the strategies available during each run. Some Crystalmancers focus on dealing massive amounts of damage, while others prioritize discovering treasure, allowing each journey to be shaped around the characteristics of the chosen character before entering the dungeon.
The equipment system expands the possibilities of each expedition by offering different types of items that can affect performance during combat. Relics provide passive benefits that increase the chances of survival, while Artifacts serve as powerful weapons that can be charged during battles and activated to unleash devastating abilities. Players can also carve Glyphs into crystal clusters, adding new properties to the pieces and creating opportunities to alter the rules of each encounter.
The enemies found throughout The Primordial Cauldron are designed to directly interfere with the puzzle mechanics, using attacks capable of opening holes in the board, stacking crystals until they reach the limit, or hiding available pieces. Each floor also features its own boss, requiring preparation and adaptation to overcome increasingly difficult challenges throughout the exploration.
The story follows the attempt to reach the bottom of the dungeon in search of the Elder Crystal, a legendary artifact that, according to stories passed down through the centuries, possesses enough magical energy to grant any wish. The growing instability of The Primordial Cauldron has allowed monsters to escape into the outside world, causing decades of suffering and countless deaths among those affected by the threat.
The combination of character building, equipment management, combat, and puzzle solving turns each expedition into a new opportunity for experimentation. With different abilities, items, and enemies altering each journey, the adventure relies on replayability to guide players toward the deepest point of the dungeon, where the fate of the Elder Crystal remains shrouded in mystery.
