The indie studio Searching Interactive announced that Crabmeat, a short first person survival horror with point and click elements, is now available on Steam. To mark the launch, a new trailer was also released, giving players a closer look at the tense and icy atmosphere of the experience.
"Crabmeat shackles you into the sodden, salty boots of an indebted prisoner of the Feudostate, which has forced you to set sail in search of priceless Southern King Crabs to pay off your debt. You must collect your quota of crustaceans within seven days or risk permanent expatriation from the state for you and your family."
In the short two to three hour experience, players navigate harsh waters in search of bountiful shores while operating alone a government issued crabbing vessel. Throughout the journey it is necessary to bait traps, place them in the water, manually winch them back, and sort the catch, all while maintaining the ship’s vital systems against the threats that lurk beneath the tide.
The game blends a first person perspective with point and click mechanics in an experimental way, allowing the entire experience to be played using only the mouse. While exploring the frozen southern wasteland, players must defend both themselves and their vessel from the denizens of the sea while continuing to collect the valuable crabs required by the state.
Among the main highlights are the exploration of a hostile maritime environment, the manual management of crabbing traps, and the constant need to maintain the vessel. By the end of the journey, Crabmeat delivers a compact yet intense experience that mixes survival, narrative tension, and exploration in a cold and unforgiving setting.
