The online multiplayer party game Chair Chase, developed by Babs Games, will feature a public demo during Steam Next Fest, running from October 19 to 26. The experience focuses on chaotic matches in which players chase living chairs through obstacle-filled environments, compete against their opponents for seats, and rack up points to secure victory.
The chase unfolds across maps featuring parkour courses, where chairs move around the environment, dodge participants, and attempt to escape while the music plays. To catch them, players can run, jump over obstacles, use dashes to close the distance, and push their rivals, turning each encounter into an unpredictable race toward the same objective.
Weapons expand the possibilities for confrontation during matches, allowing players to disrupt both the chairs and their opponents. These tools can be used to block escape routes, interrupt another player's pursuit, or create opportunities to reach a seat before the competition, who can also employ the same tactics.
Catching a chair requires more than simply reaching it, as players must win a brief balancing challenge while others attempt to knock them off. Those who manage to stay seated earn points and a key, while the chair disappears and reappears elsewhere in the environment, emerging from a pipe somewhere inside the house.
Keys can be used to open chests scattered across the map and find useful items for upcoming chases. Players can also increase their scores through parkour maneuvers and interactions with other participants, providing alternative ways to progress in the competition even when securing a chair proves difficult.
The between-round shop offers items that can provide advantages during matches, adding a layer of strategic decision-making to the gameplay. Each competition consists of seven rounds, with the player who accumulates the most points by the end declared the winner.
Players can create private lobbies to compete with friends or join public matches against other participants online. The combination of chases, obstacles, weapons, and struggles for seats promises varied situations in which an advantage gained in a matter of seconds can disappear after an unexpected shove.
