Belgian independent developer Maracas Studio has announced that its post office simulation game, Cat Mail Co., set in a world inhabited by cats, will launch on Steam on July 6, 2026. The title stood out during Steam Next Fest, becoming one of the event's breakout hits and helping surpass 50,000 wishlists in just two weeks.
The game places players on Cat's Island, where the local post office has fallen into disarray following the mysterious disappearance of its former postman. With parcels piling up and customers growing increasingly impatient, players must restore the service to its former glory by handling deliveries one package at a time.
Designed as a calm and satisfying experience, the gameplay revolves around a pressure free routine. Players are tasked with weighing, stamping, labeling, organizing, and sorting mail, allowing them to work at their own pace without timers or penalties. As progress is made, new destinations, tools, and abilities gradually become available.
The overall structure emphasizes preparation and flow, encouraging careful organization rather than urgency. Instead of challenging players with strict deadlines, the experience focuses on the simple satisfaction of completing postal tasks in a relaxed and enjoyable environment.
The day and night cycle introduces additional layers of depth through subtle magical elements that emerge after sunset. During the nighttime hours, certain parcels may reveal unusual properties under the moonlight, transforming ordinary routines into opportunities for discovery and exploration.
The narrative unfolds gradually through the backlog of undelivered mail waiting to be processed. As parcels are sorted and delivered, players uncover clues that shed light on the disappearance of the former postman and the secrets hidden throughout the island.
Cooperative multiplayer for up to four players expands the experience, allowing friends to work together to restore the post office. This collaborative approach can make managing the growing workload more efficient while preserving the cozy atmosphere at the heart of the game.
Sophie Schiaratura, co founder of Maracas Studio, highlighted the creative philosophy behind the project. According to her, "In an ever-changing and often unpredictable video game industry, we believe there is still a place for small indie games with strong creative vision. With Cat Mail Co., we wanted to offer players a truly relaxing experience, and we hope they will feel the same joy we had while developing it".
In addition to supporting English, French, Italian, German, Spanish, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Japanese, Polish, and Brazilian Portuguese, the release aims to reach a global audience interested in relaxing experiences that blend management mechanics, storytelling, and a charming feline world.
