Australian indie developer We Made A Thing Studios has announced that Box Knight, its debut game, will launch on August 25 for PC via Steam. The release date was revealed alongside a new trailer showcased during Convergence Showcase, highlighting fast paced beat'em up combat, office themed humor, and an unlikely hero wielding cardboard weapons to take on co workers transformed into monsters.
The story follows an ordinary office employee trying to survive another workweek before taking on a very different role once the clock strikes 5 PM on Friday. As the Box Knight, the protagonist must defend an office consumed by corporate corruption, battling grotesque creatures that were once fellow employees while climbing through different departments to reach the top floor for a final showdown against the CEO.
The campaign can be played solo, while the full release will also introduce local couch co op for two players. Along the way, players will fight through meeting rooms, office spaces, and hallways, growing stronger to overcome increasingly dangerous challenges with a roguelike progression system that encourages returning after every defeat.
Its side scrolling combat system emphasizes quick encounters that reward positioning, timing, and tactical decision making. Every enemy type requires a different approach, with some resisting specific attacks, others demanding piercing weapons, and some exploding when struck in certain ways, encouraging players to constantly adapt their strategy.
Progression takes place both during and between runs. As players climb the office tower, they unlock new cardboard weapons, abilities, and temporary upgrades that shape each attempt. Even after falling in battle, collected resources can be spent on permanent upgrades, improved stats, and new equipment to prepare for future runs.
A comic book inspired art style transforms the corporate workplace into a colorful world filled with exaggerated action and absurd situations. Players can also customize helmets, uniforms, weapons, and cosmetic items, reinforcing the game's lighthearted premise that saving the office is serious business, but looking good while doing it is just as important.
