Hell Byte Studios has launched Blood Reaver in Early Access on Steam, marking the studio’s debut with a dark-fantasy co-op FPS. Founded in 2023 in Adelaide, the team was born from a passion for heavy metal, dark fantasy, and round-based shooters, spending years building the project they always wanted to play.

In the game, players take on the role of the last surviving Blood Reaver, a cursed warrior tasked with stopping a demonic uprising in a world already on its knees. Armed with heavy metal firearms and blood magic artefacts, players battle enemies across environments that include the ruins of fallen empires, sunken towns, and the remnants of hell itself.

The experience can be enjoyed solo or in co-op with up to three friends. Each run acts as a constant test of adaptation, strategy building, and survival, encouraging players to evolve with every attempt.

The structure follows a round-based wave shooter format for one to four players. With each new wave, demons arrive faster, stronger, and more relentless, creating an intense pace that does not slow down until everyone is dead.

The combat system is divided into two main pillars. Weapons follow a linear progression, being found and upgraded throughout the run, allowing players to become progressively stronger.

Abilities work differently, charging up as enemies are defeated. These charges can be spent to unleash powerful bursts of blood magic, ethereal arts, or forbidden powers, adding a strategic layer to combat.

Between waves, players can use the Deck of Fates and the Blood Infuser to upgrade their characters and weapons. These systems ensure varied combinations in every run, increasing replayability and encouraging different playstyles.

Each map also hides environmental storytelling elements, revealing clues about who the Blood Reavers were and what is truly driving the demonic invasion, gradually expanding the game’s universe.

"It's live. After everything it took to get here, Blood Reaver is finally in the hands of the people it was built for." says Jackson Hole of Hell Byte Studios.

Among the key highlights are blood-fueled abilities that allow players to cast powerful spells across three distinct schools, in-run upgrades through dedicated systems, co-op gameplay for up to four players, and progression focused on continuous survival.

With strong inspiration from renowned genre experiences, the title delivers a dark-fantasy setting combined with intense action, offering an experience designed for players who seek both atmosphere and dynamic combat.

We grew up with round-based survival shooters. Blood Reaver is our love letter to that genre, but with a darker world, smarter systems and magic that actually feels powerful. We can't wait for players to discover what's hiding in the walls — Jackson Hole, founder and game director at Hell Byte Studios
