Independent developer Appnormals, known for STAY, Frank and Drake, and Terracotta, has officially announced Bighorn Ramone, a first person 3D psychological horror game. The title is scheduled to launch on PC via Steam in the fourth quarter of 2026, with console versions planned for 2027.
The story takes place inside a historic sports arena that has recently undergone extensive renovations but conceals a disturbing temporal anomaly. Players are thrown into a 1986 championship basketball game that never ended and must survive while trapped inside a heavy mascot suit that cannot be removed, searching for a way to escape an endless cycle.
The experience drastically limits the player's vision, as the only glimpse of the outside world comes through the tiny mouth opening of the mascot costume. With a severely restricted field of view and an oppressive atmosphere, the game turns everything beyond the player's sight into a constant source of fear, reinforcing tension throughout the journey.
Under the relentless watch of a towering Jumbotron, players must complete high pressure physical challenges, solve atmospheric puzzles, and navigate the dark corridors of an arena built upon a cursed past. Breaking the cycle requires uncovering the conspiracy behind the fatal championship night of 1986 and rewriting its ending before the arena decides the player's fate.
Among the game's standout features are its claustrophobic mascot perspective, precision based challenges directed by the Jumbotron before a ghostly audience, and exploration across two versions of the arena, shifting between its modern structure and the haunted ruins that preserve the scars of the decades old tragedy.
The project also marks the studio's return to the atmospheric psychological horror that defined STAY, the award winning indie title that helped establish Appnormals' reputation. According to the team, the new game is designed to push physical restraint and sensory deprivation even further, placing vulnerability at the center of the experience.
"With Bighorn Ramone, we wanted to take physical restraint and sensory deprivation to a whole new level," said Iñaki Diaz Acedo, Studio Lead at Appnormals. "Being the mascot is usually about bringing joy, but inside this suit, under the glare of both the Jumbotron and a crowd of frightening fans, it becomes a desperate battle for survival. It's a raw, passionate project that brings us right back to our psychological thriller roots."
Currently in Beta, the title is on track for a digital release on Steam in the fourth quarter of 2026. Console versions are expected to follow in 2027, expanding the studio's latest psychological horror experience to additional platforms.
