The Belgian Game Awards 2024, organized by FLEGA and BelgianGames, with support from various partners in the Belgian gaming ecosystem, have officially revealed this year’s nominees. Excitement is building as the ceremony, set to take place on October 18th at Brussels Expo, introduces a new twist: winners won’t just take home a single award but will be honored with Gold, Silver, or Bronze titles, marking a more dynamic and celebratory experience.


Among the highly anticipated categories, nominees for XR Game of the Year include GAZZLERS by Bolt Blaster Games, BAM by I-Illusions, and Breachers by Triangle Factory. In the Best Applied Game category, games like Kadet by Die Keure, Please, Touch The Artwork 2 by Thomas Waterzooi, and The Man Came Around by Pipette Inc have captured attention. Each of these titles reflects innovation in gameplay and storytelling, embodying the spirit of applied gaming in Belgium.


In terms of narrative, the Best Narrative category features powerful storytelling with The Man Came Around by Pipette Inc, Gangs of Sherwood by Appeal Studios, and the globally renowned Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Studios. This award recognizes those that push narrative boundaries, offering players rich, immersive worlds to explore.


For auditory excellence, the Best Audio category includes Swarm Survivor by Megaloh! Games, Verses of Enchantment by Nachtvlam, and Baldur's Gate 3 by Larian Studios, showing off some of the most impressive soundscapes and audio design in gaming. Meanwhile, the Best Visual Art category highlights stunning visuals, with nominees such as Waking Tides by AirshipFX, Please, Touch The Artwork 2 by Thomas Waterzooi, and The Man Came Around by Pipette Inc.


Game mechanics also take the spotlight in the Best Game Design category, where titles like Slapshot Rebound by Oddshot Games, GAZZLERS by Bolt Blaster Games, and Baldur's Gate 3 are vying for recognition of their innovative designs. For those who love multiplayer experiences, Slapshot Rebound, Breachers, and Kraken Island by VEX Solutions are up for the Best Multiplayer award.


The future of Belgian gaming is bright, with nominees for Student Game of the Year showcasing the next generation of talent. Don't Forget by Howest DAE students, Nebelmer by Haute École Albert Jacquard students, and A Postman's Journey by LUCA School of Arts students have all earned their place in the spotlight.


Alongside these exciting categories, the jury is still evaluating unreleased titles for the Most Anticipated award, and players at home will soon be able to vote for their favorites in the Audience Award. One game will also walk away with the highly coveted Belgian Game of the Year trophy. Additionally, three special awards are lined up for studios: Most Promising Start-Up Studio, Changemaker of the Year, and Best Tech Provider.
