Spellware Studios, an independent developer based in Ghent, Belgium, has released the first playable demo for Ardent Wilds on Steam. The demo lets players experience part of the open world survival crafting RPG, where they must rebuild four ancient magical spires to stop the advancing Eldran, an eldritch hivemind that consumes everything in its path.
The demo introduces a progression system centered on exploration, allowing players to discover a wide range of abilities and spells to create different character builds. Available powers include offensive spells such as Fireballs and movement abilities that let players dash across the battlefield at high speed. Combat follows a fast paced arcade inspired style, challenging players with boss battles and demanding PvE encounters.
Early playtesters described the experience as "3D Terraria," highlighting its blend of exploration, character progression, and construction within a fully destructible world. The demo also provides a first look at its base building mechanics, world driven progression system, and the freedom to reshape the environment through voxel technology.
Progression revolves around restoring ancient spires and forgotten facilities scattered throughout the world. Every restored structure unlocks new abilities, passive bonuses, and fast travel points, encouraging exploration while opening new ways to tackle the challenges ahead.
The campaign tasks players with cleansing the land from the influence of the Eldran before becoming powerful enough to confront Yorgoroth, the Devourer of Worlds. As the journey continues, increasingly dangerous regions introduce tougher enemies and bosses that demand mastery of the abilities collected along the way.
Beyond its action focused gameplay, the title features an extensive base building system. Materials gathered during exploration can be used to craft armor, equipment, furniture, and decorative items, allowing players to create a fully customized fantasy home.
The experience also supports cooperative multiplayer for up to six players through both Steam and local area network sessions. Players can join friends to overcome the campaign's challenges together or focus on building and expanding a shared base.
Another major feature is full modding support. Every script used for the existing game content is included and fully accessible through Lua, giving players the freedom to study, modify, and create new content to expand the experience.
